Why do a lot of fine fragrance mists reek of alcohol?

Many fine fragrance mists contain high concentrations of denatured alcohol (ethanol) as a solvent to dissolve and disperse the fragrance oils. When first sprayed, you smell this alcohol before it quickly evaporates, leaving behind the actual fragrance. Less expensive mists often use higher alcohol-to-fragrance ratios. This makes the alcohol smell more noticeable.
